January 16, 1952 -- December 8, 2016 A FAITHFUL EMPLOYEE FOR OVER 40 YEARS

A lifelong resident of Kings Mountain, Ronnie has been a member of the funeral industry for 41 years and those years have all been at Harris Funeral Home. A graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia, he chose to serve the people of Kings Mountain and Cleveland County. He was licensed in Funeral Service (Director and Embalmer) in North Carolina and South Carolina.

He was married to his wife Libby Dye Hawkins, also a lifelong resident of Kings Mountain and they were married for 39 years and dedicated their lives to serve their community. Both are Elders at their church, First Presbyterian in Kings Mountain and Ronnie also served as the church treasurer and Sunday School teacher.

Service to the community has always been a special part of his life. To list a few of those services:

Served four terms (15 years) as a county commissioner for Cleveland County, having served as its Vice-Chair and Chair. 

Served on the Kings Mountain District Board of Education for 12 years and as its chair for 6 years. 

Served as an advisor of the Life Enrichment Center, YMCA, Council on Aging, Cleveland County Health Department, Community in Schools, Gardner-Webb University, Godbold School of Business, District Director for Boy Scouts of America. 

Trustee, Cleveland Community College and Foundation Board member and trustee of Cleveland Regional Medical Center. 

Involved in many other activities, Civil Air Patrol, Pilots for Christ , Kiwanis Club, and board member of the Shelby-Cleveland Regional Airport Board and an advocate for the humane treatment of animals. 

Served in the US Army, Mason and recipient of a number of awards, recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for the Boy Scout of America and the 2015 Bridge Builder Award from the Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce and on April 3, received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from Governor Pat McCroy. 

In his spare time he loved to fly, taking over 950 children for their first flight, and reading. 

Member of the North Carolina Realtor’s Association and associated on a part time basis with Coldwell Bankers Mountain View Real Estate.

Monty works full time at Harris Funeral Home as a licensed funeral director/embalmer. He is retired from the City of Kings Mountain with over 32 years of service as the Senior Center Director and came to work with the funeral home part time as a second career in 1998. He is a 1982 Graduate of Gardner-Webb University with a BS in Psychology and a 2006 honor graduate of Fayetteville Technical Community College with an AS Degree in Funeral Service. He views funeral service as a noble profession and a ministry. 

Monty is very active in the community. He is a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church where he has served as past Treasurer, Deacon and Usher. He also services as Secretary of the Life Enrichment Center Advisory Board and is a former Secretary and Past President of the Children’s Homes of Cleveland County Board. He is a Commissioner of the Kings Mountain Housing Authority and also serves as a Trustee of the Cleveland County Healthcare System. Monty is a proponent of end of life issues and currently is the only funeral director serving on JOURNEY, the End of Life Coalition of Cleveland County. He assisted JOURNEY in implementing funeral home tours in Cleveland County which he feels improves dialogue and gets folks talking about funeral planning which is often a forgotten component of end of life planning. He is also a member of the American Society of Embalmers.

In his spare time he enjoys cooking, walking, swimming and spending time with his pets.

Jeff is the newest addition to the Harris Family.

 

Originally from Tennessee Jeff felt a calling to serve in Funeral Service at an early age.  A 1993 graduate of Gupton – Jones College of Funeral Services, Jeff is a very experienced professional having served in many capacities and most recently as the Manager of Walker Funeral Home in Chapel Hill, NC.

 

Jeff also loves to sing Southern Gospel  Music and has sun with several groups and has shared the stage with such noted groups as the Greene’s, Naomi and the Segos and the Dixie Melody Boys.

 

Jeff and his wife Kimberly make their home in Shelby along with their granddaughter Emma Grace.

 

Jeff says “It is an honor to attend to the needs of grieving family during one of the most difficult times of their lives.  Each day provides me with the opportunity to make a difference, to share my knowledge and experience and help families find some measure of comfort and loss.

A 1991 graduate of Kings Mountain High School and a 1996 graduate of Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, Bradley received his B.A. Degree. In 2000, Bradley graduated from Fayetteville Technical Community College with an A.A.S. in Funeral Service Education. He is a Funeral Service Licensee in both North and South Carolina, and he is a Preneed Sales Licensee in North Carolina. Bradley has been employed with Harris Funeral Home since 1994. Bradley is a Notary Public in Cleveland County,member of the NC Association of Realtors,and a part-time real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Mountain View Real Estate, Kings Mtn. NC He is a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church in Kings Mountain

William B. McDaniel

William B. McDaniel

Funeral Service Licensee

1947 graduate of Grover High School, Wiliam began working part-time for Harris Funeral Home in August of 1949. He graduated from the Dallas Institute Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in June of 1956; he became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer later that year. William also worked at the U.S. Post Office in Kings Mountain from 1960 to to 1989. Additionally, he drove a Tour Bus for America Charters L.T.D. of Gastonia from 1982 to 1995 - all the while working as a part-time Embalmer and Funeral Director for Harris Funeral Home. He began working full-time at the funeral home in January of 1996. William served 2 years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He also served on the Kings Mountain District Schools Board of Education for 12 years, the last 6 of which he was Chairman of the Board. He was only the second layman to serve 2 terms as Moderator of the Kings Mountain Baptist Association. He is a member and Deacon of Bethlehem Baptist Church.William and his wife Helen have been married for over 50 years. They reside on the farm where William was raised, and they have 2 children and 2 grandchildren


Becky Harris

Becky Harris, daughter of the late Ollie Harris, founder of Harris Funeral Home, still participates in Funeral Home activities, although retired. She has two children Kathy and David and two grandchildren Phillip and Jada. She is a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church.

A resident of Kings Mountain, Eric graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in 1987, and has served as a funeral director for over 28 years. He is a member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church, where he serves as a Worship Leader. He is a Pre-need Licensee. In his spare time, he enjoys music, singing, cooking, and fishing. Eric is glad that his profession provides an opportunity to help those in need.
