KINGS MOUNTAIN-- Charles Leonard Alexander, 88, went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2010, at Kings Mountain Hospice House. He was born in Cleveland County, to the late Leonard Lane Alexander and Martha Lula Bridges Alexander. He was husband for 55 years to the late Ruby Moss Alex-ander. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was former Postmaster of Kings Mountain for 25 years, President of the NC chap-ter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and was a recipient of the prestigious award, Order of the Vest, one of four recipients by the National League of Postmasters. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 48 years, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Chair-man of the Building Committee for the new sanctuary and various other committees. He helped organize and served as Scoutmaster of the first Boy Scout Troop for First Baptist Church, Troop 92. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, J.C.'s, and Lions Club. He was an architect and local developer who designed many homes in Kings Mountain and was in charge of architectural design for Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his son, Reg Alexander and wife Dianne "Deco" Alexander of Kings Mountain, daughter, Cindi Alexander Wood and husband Larry W. Wood of Kings Mountain, brothers, James "Jim" Alexander, and wife Margie of Kings Mountain , Dwight Alexander and wife Betty, Kings Mountain. 3 grandchildren, Brandon Wood and wife Bonnie Haynes Wood, Nashville, Tenn., Lane Wood and wife Meghan Potter Wood of Raleigh, Kyra Elizabeth Alexander and fiancAC. Andrew Turner of Kings Mountain, 1 Great-Grandchild, Durham Alex-ander Wood and another soon to arrive.
Visitation: The family will receive friends , Thursday, Aug. 26, 6-8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain
Memorial Service: Friday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m. First Baptist Church
Burial: With Military Honors provided by Marine Corp League: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
