DATELINE:  SHELBY, NORTH CAROLINA Charles "Wayde" Ledbetter

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Charles "Wayde" Ledbetter, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully at 64 on May 17, 2025, leaving behind a lifetime of laughter, love, and unforgettable moments.

Born May 19, 1960 on U.S. Naval Air Station in Bermuda, he was the son of the late Charles William Ledbetter and Diane "Mama D" Shipper. Wayde was the kind of man who could light up the room with a grin and have you belly laughing before your coffee was even done brewing. He lived his life with a twinkle in his eye, a joke in his back pocket, and a heart big enough to hold an entire family and then some.

Wayde found joy in the simple pleasures: the wind in his face on a boat ride, the peaceful rhythm in riding a horse, and the hum of his trusty tractor as he worked the land. But perhaps nothing called to him quite like the ocean. He loved the sea deeply--its calm, its wildness, and everything in between. Whether it was watching the waves roll in or heading out on the water with his grandkids, the ocean was where his soul felt most free.

But nothing brought him more pride or happiness than his family. A devoted husband, a loving father, a playful and wise grandfather, and a proud great-grandfather, Wayde was the cornerstone of countless memories, lessons, and laughs. Whether it was a family cookout, a spontaneous adventure, or a quiet heart-to-heart, he made everyone feel special and seen. He loved big, laughed often, and never took life too seriously--unless you tried to drive his tractor, in which case you had better run.

Though our hearts ache with his passing, we are comforted knowing that he lived fully and loved deeply. His legacy of humor, resilience, and boundless love will echo through generations.

The family will hold a private celebration of life where stories will be shared, tears will be shed, and laughter will be enjoyed, just the way he wanted.
