Colene Martin Bennett, age 97, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on June 13, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. She was born on January 25, 1929, in York, South Carolina, to John and Mable Martin.
Colene grew up in a close-knit family and carried that same spirit of love and devotion throughout her life. On December 23, 1955, she married the love of her life, Lawrence “Tib” Bennett, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Their marriage was a partnership marked by faith, hard work, and a shared joy in the simple blessings of life. Together, they tended a small backyard vegetable garden every year—a tradition that brought them both peace and pride.
A longtime and active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Colene lived her faith through service. Over the years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, church officer, Girl Scout leader, and a dedicated member of the church choir. Her kindness, steady presence, and willingness to serve touched countless lives within her church family and community.
Colene was preceded in death by her siblings Vivian McDaniel, Virginia Mixon, John Martin, Jr., and Mildred Barrett. She is survived by her sister Gwen Smith, who continues to cherish their lifelong bond.
She leaves behind her loving children, Reta Ramirez (husband Jesus) and Scott Bennett (wife Barbara); her grandchildren, Michael Bennett (Allison), Gregory Bennett (Ericka), Lauren Ramirez (Kristen), Andrea Ramirez (Keneau), and Brandon Ramirez (Matt); and a host of extended family and friends who will forever remember her gentle spirit, warm smile, and unwavering love.
Colene’s life was a testament to faith, family, and service. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
