Crystal Dawn Short Smith, 43, of Cherryville, NC, passed away on June 27, 2025 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. Born July 31, 1981 in Cleveland County, NC, she was the daughter of Vernon Short, Sr. and Anna Lawson Roper and was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Boyd. Crystal was a hard worker who loved yard-sale shopping. She was a dedicated attendee of Penley's Chapel Church, where she was always found side-by-side with her late sister, Lisa. Crystal's life revolved around her daughter, Layla. When she wasn't working, attending church, or taking care of her mother, Crystal enjoyed playing with, teaching, or loving on Layla. She leaves a legacy as a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend.

Crystal is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, her special friend Regina Short (David), and countless other friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Penley's Chapel Church in Kings Mountain with Reverend Melvin Proctor officiating

VISITATION: Thursday, July 3, 2025, prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:50 A.M. at Penley's Chapel Church

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
