DATELINE:  KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA

Cynthia Lenora Bird Morris

Lenora Morris, 91, of Kings Mountain, NC died Saturday, May 19, 2018 after a brief stay at  Atrium Kings Mountain Hospital where she received excellent care.  Lenora, as she was best known to friends and immediate family, was born in 1927 to Cora Kleckley Bird and Benjamin Franklin Bird, Grover, NC.  Her four sisters, known fondly as the “Bird Girls”, Marjorie, Elizabeth, Catherine, and Frankie preceded her in death as did her husband, Emory Woodley Morris.  Lenora is survived by her daughter, Emy Morris, Richmond, VA, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and several “great greats” across the US, including Alaska.  In Cleveland County, NC she is survived by niece Cynthia Throop Glidden (Scott), nephew Stephen Throop, great niece Angharad Glidden Torres (Ben), and great greats Cora and Asher Torres who brought much joy and many smiles.

Lenora was always a Cleveland County girl at heart. She moved back to the area in 1985 after 37 years in Norfolk/Chesapeake, VA where her husband was from.  Prior to her marriage, Lenora completed nurses training (RN) at North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, Winston Salem, NC. Her first nursing role was as a member of the US Cadet Corps, whose purpose was to ensure the country had enough nurses to care for its citizens at home and abroad during World War II. A distinguished 33 year career followed after the Corps with ever increasing responsibilities in direct patient care and nursing administration at the US Public Health Service Hospital, Norfolk, VA.

Lenora lived a long, full, optimistic life for which her family and friends are extremely grateful.  Never a big talker, she was certainly a big listener, leaving many to wonder who will hear us now.
