David Mark Hullender, 64, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on June 18, 2026 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby. Born March 27, 1962 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late David Ray Hullender and Margaret Ann Davidson Hullender. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Deborah Ann Hullender.
Mark graduated from Kings Mountain High School then went on to graduate with the Class of 1984 at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earned a Doctorate of Law from North Carolina Central University in 1989, then received a Master's in Taxation Law from the University of Florida in 1990. He put his education to use in a long career in law, including time serving as the Deputy Commissioner of the Industrial Commission of North Carolina.
Mark was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain and a supporter of the Boys and Girls Club. He was a cigar aficionado and member of a cigar club. Mark cherished his time spent fishing with his college friends. He will be remembered as a dedicated community member and a loving father and grandfather.
Mark is survived by his children Lauren Hullender of Revere, MA and Steven Smith of Kings Mountain, his former wife Kandice Hullender of Kings Mountain, and his grandson Parker Smith.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. John Sloan officiating
VISITATION: Thursday, June 25, 2026 prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:50 A.M. in the parlor at Harris Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
