Dwan Wray Thornburg, 77, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2022 at his home. He was born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Edgar Wray and Gladys McSwain Thornburg and was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Dwan Thornburg. Dwan was also preceded in death by his brothers, Modean and Newell Thornburg, and his sisters, Lavelle Thornburg and Helen Patterson. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Shelby. Dwan retired from Martin Marrietta after many years of service operating heavy equipment. He was a talented carpenter and blacksmith often creating things he needed on the farm. Dwan enjoyed spending time working outside on his home place, raising animals and working the garden. He loved spending time with his family and friends fishing. Dwan always placed his family first and loved them all deeply. His wisdom, guidance, and love will be missed greatly by everyone who knew and cherished him.

SURVIVORS: Wife of 59 years: Betty Sue Hoyle Thornburg, of the home Children: Gilda Thornburg, and Zoltan Thornburg and wife Mae Bitsue Thornburg, both of Kings Mountain, NC Grandchildren: Aaron, Rose, Myka, and Joy Thornburg, Erika Fleming (Shelby), Brooke Jones (Nathan), Tristan Thornburg, and Brandon Thornburg (Ashley) Great-Grandchildren: Zoey Griffin, Jace Quiles, Andrew Fleming, Easton Jones, and Liam and Isaac Samples A host of other loving family members

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, April 1, 2022 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church with Pastors J. Barry Goodman, Johnny Owens, and Zoltan Thornburg officiating

VISITATION: Thursday, March 31, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church

INTERMENT: Faith Baptist Church Cemetery, Shelby, NC
