- Gail Heavner Herndon, age 66, a resident of. Kings Mountain, NC, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. She was born in Cleveland Co., NC, daughter of the late Sidney E. "Pete" and Hilda Bookout Heavner. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Edward Hambright Herndon. She retired from the State of North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles and an active member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Herndon was a former member of the Study Club and the Kings Mountain Woman's Club. Gail loved to watch her grandchildren participate in sports and other activities and enjoyed trips to the beach with family and friends and also loved to play cards with her friends. She was a loving wife, mother and Nana.
