KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. George E. Bowen, 73, of 1743 Bethlehem Road, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 at his home after a three week battle with cancer.
He was born in Rutherford County to the late Fred and Verda Smart Bowen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Winford "Wimp" Bowen.
He was retired from PPG after 40 years of service. A lifetime member of the VFW and Otis D. Green Post 155, member of American Legion and a Mason with the Fairview Masonic Lodge where he has served as past Master. He was the District Deputy Grand Lecturer for 13 years for the Masons. He was also a Shriner with the White Plains Shrine Club. He served in the United States Army. A special thanks to RN Gwen Wade of Cleveland County Hospice.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lucille "Luci" Caveny Bowen, of Kings Mountain; son, Brad Bowen and wife, Sarah, of Kings Moun-tain; daughter, Dawn Bowen Chisholm and husband, Peter, Gwinn, Mich.; sisters, Betty Fite and husband, Charles, of Kings Mountain, Brenda Dover and husband, Jerry R., of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren, Kaleigh Wren Chisholm and Maggie Elizabeth Bowen.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 22, 6 to 8 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain.
Funeral: Thursday, Sept. 23, 2 p.m., Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel
