George Nelson Carroll, Sr

GEORGE NELSON CARROLL, SR. - George Nelson Carroll, Sr., age 87, resident of White Oak Manor, Kings Mountain, NC died May 19, 2014. He was born in Cleveland Co. NC to the late John William Carroll and Minnie Lee Goforth Carroll. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Sue Weaver Carroll, 7 sisters and 6 brothers. Mr. Carroll was retired after 25 years of service from FMC, Bessemer City, NC. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Senior choir and the M&M Sunday school class. He volunteered for the Patrick Senior Center and was a founding member of the Kings Mountain Rescue Squad. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Biloxi. He especially loved his grandchildren, calling them all "Sweetie."

SURVIVORS: Sons: George Nelson Carroll, Jr and wife Carolyn, Bessemer City Arthur Allen Carroll, Sr. and wife Jessie, Kings Mtn. NC Phillip Edward Carroll and wife Denice, Oaklawn, IL Daughters: Cathy Carroll Bridges and husband Ken, Kings Mtn. NC Dorothy C. "Dottie" Adkins and husband Fred, Colonial Heights, VA 14 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: First Baptist Church Thursday, May 22, 2014 2:00 P.M. Dr. John Sloan, officiating.

VISITATION: 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, North Carolina other times at the home of the daughter, Cathy Bridges, 709 Sandalwood Lane, Kings Mountain, NC

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina

MEMORIALS: First Baptist Church, "Mission Readiness Fund" 605 W. King Street, Kings Mountain, NC 28086
