DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Harry Douglas Cates Harry Douglas Cates, 78, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2021 at his home. He was born in Orange County, NC, son of the late Marion Rosevelt and Nellie Mae Merritt Cates and was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Cates. Harry served his country proudly for over twenty years in the US Army retiring as a First Sgt. He was a combat engineer and served at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Korea, and completed three tours in Vietnam. Harry attended First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain, NC. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending time outdoors. Harry was always generous with his time and talents. He had a soft spot for older people and helping with anything they needed. He was a wonderful, loving husband who supported Jerrie in every one of her endeavors. His love and companionship will be missed greatly. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gaston Palliative Services and Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Harry.
