Haskel Champion

December 20, 1935 — March 19, 2011

HASKEL CHAMPION -Willie Haskel Champion, age 75, a resident of Grover, NC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 19, 2011 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Floyd and Annie Bell Bowen Champion. He was also preceded in death by brothers Albert Champion and Odell Champion. Retired from Hoechst Celanese Corporation, Shelby, NC, he also served on the Grover Rescue Squad. An active member of First Baptist Church, Grover, NC, he served as a deacon, was on the grounds committee and served in other capacities. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

SURVIVORS: Wife of 52 years, Frances Marlow Champion, Grover, NC; Daughters: Pennie C. Medlin and Mark Howard, San Bruno, California; Sonya Champion, Mount Holly, NC; and Teresa Champion Ward and husband Jeff, Grover, NC. Brother: Leonard Champion and wife Sandy, Kings Mountain, NC. 6 Grandchildren: Erika Rhodes, Tara Medlin, Heather Hibbert, Derek Weatherly, Tyler Ward and Kelsey Ward. 9 Great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, March 22, 2011, 4:00 PM, First Baptist Church, Grover, NC officiated by Rev. John Barnhardt, Rev. Tony Fulbright and Rev. Paul Sorrells

VISITATION: 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Monday evening, March 21, 2011 at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain, NC

INTERMENT: Grover Cemetery, Grover, NC
