James Pressley Self

James Pressley Self, 73, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on August 3, 2026 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby. Born December 31, 1952 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Richard James Self and Edith Jackson Self. James graduated from Kings Mountain High School and later went on to a career of many years as a quality control engineer at Honeywell, formerly known as Fasco.

James was of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing and other sports. He grew up playing drums and maintained a lifelong love for music. He was an avid animal lover who doted on many canine companions throughout his life. Above all, James was a loving husband, father, and Pawpaw.

SURVIVORS: Wife of 15 years: Lisa Carter Self, of the home

Children: Jamie Self Downey of Kings Mountain, Holly Queen (Karen) of Kings Mountain, Heather Loflin of Harrisburg, NC, and Chase Shipman of Kings Mountain

Grandchildren: Sean Downey and Alex Downey

James is also survived by his beloved pup, Molly.

The family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate James's life.
