DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA

Jessie Leland Meacham

Jessie Leland Meacham, 80, of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, passed away on May 1, 2026.

Born on January 9, 1946, Leland was a lifelong resident of the Kings Mountain area. He dedicated many years of his life to his work as a skilled welder, retiring from Freightliner. Following his retirement, he continued serving his community through the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Welcome Center I-85 South, where he retired as well and enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life.

Leland proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard with the 505th Engineering Battalion in Kings Mountain, from which he later retired. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church.

Leland deeply loved his grandchildren and took great pride in them, treasuring every moment spent together and the joy they brought into his life. He was a devoted husband who made it a point to check on Sheryl whenever she was away from home, always calling to make sure she was safe. He stayed closely connected to his family, calling his children and grandchildren daily to remind them how much he loved them.

Even during his illness, Leland's concern remained for others. He would say to each of them, “Make sure you call me if you need anything.” And they did, because he was always there, ready to help, never hesitating to give his time, his strength, and his love.

Leland will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his unwavering devotion to his family, and his steadfast faith. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sheryl Brodnax Meacham; his children, Michelle Kaylor Sherwood and her husband Todd of Shelby, North Carolina, and Chuck Kaylor and his spouse Glen Blount of Asheville, North Carolina; and his cherished grandchildren, Eleyna Ledbetter and her spouse Austin of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Andrew D’Angelo of Shelby, North Carolina.
