DATELINE:  KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Jo Ann Gray Wheat

Jo Ann Gray Wheat, 71, of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, passed away on August 23rd, 2024 at home. Born November 6th, 1952 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, she was the eldest daughter of the late John and Virginia Dare Gray and was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years, William Kenneth "Ken" Wheat. Jo Ann retired from Reliance/Baldor in Kings Mountain. She loved to watch cooking shows on TV and enjoyed cooking, especially for holidays and gatherings like Thanksgiving. She believed in the power of retail therapy, but instead of just buying things for herself, she often purchased gifts for friends and loved ones. In years past, Jo Ann could often be found doing work around the yard and delighted in decorating for holidays. She was very patriotic and strongly supported the display of the American flag. She became the "neighborhood mawmaw" and was very invested in others' success. She supported her grandchildren in all their endeavors, from the bleachers at softball games to fishing on the beach. Jo Ann truly put others ahead of herself and functioned as something of a therapist for close friends and family members. She was very family-oriented and spent as much time with her family as she could. She loved family beach trips and treasured mother-daughter trips with her daughter Tandra. She will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her.

SURVIVORS: Daughter: Tandra Ramsey of Kings Mountain Siblings: Linda Burns of Kings Mountain; Wanda Oates of Waco, NC; Billy Gray of Shelby, NC; Brenda Bellamy of Kings Mountain; and Robert "Peanut" Gray of Kings Mountain Grandchildren: Cameron Ramsey and wife Taylor, and Jenna Ramsey and fiance Holden Turner Jo Ann is additionally survived by her beloved canine companion, Pepper Wheat, and her special friend Trudy Martin.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Tuesday, August 27th, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at the Burns Family Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Wells officiating.

VISITATION: Monday, August 26th, 2024 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the parlor at Harris Funeral Home.

INTERMENT: Burns Family Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
