John Costner Jr.

John Costner Jr., 90, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on July 26, 2026 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC. He was born February 14, 1936 in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late John Costner Sr. and Sally Adams Costner and was preceded in death by all of his siblings, four sisters, and three brothers. John was also preceded in death by a son in law, David Sisk. John was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He began his career as a floor covering specialist with Doc Byers when he was only 15 years old. He work in the industry for over forty years. Following the closure of his workplace, John worked briefly at Foote Mineral before finding the job he most loved with Cleveland County School system. John worked for the school system as a maintenance technician for more than 20 years before finally retiring. He enjoyed staying busy and was a man of many talents and hobbies. John could fix just about anything that was broken and could build anything that was needed. He loved training and competing with show chickens and was a breeder of many exotic birds. He bred many different birds including owls, falcons, and hawks. John built all of the pens used to house his birds. One of his favorite hobbies was crafting original musket rifles and powder horns. John loved attending and competing in Revolutionary Rendezvous. He took part in many musket competitions throughout the years. John enjoyed staying busy with his work, hobbies and his family. He always made time for those he loved and would do anything they asked of him. He was a jack of all trades, and always busy tinkering or fixing things for people. John was a faithful husband, a dedicated father, and a loving grandfather to three generations of grandchildren. His guidance, commitment and love will be cherished by all those who knew and loved John.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Steve Taylor officiating

VISITATION: Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM prior to the service at bethlehem Baptist Church in the Christian Activities Center

INTERMENT: Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC
