KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Jonas R. Bridges, 80, of 112 N. Oakwood Drive, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Boiling Springs to the late Robert B. and Laladge Greene Bridges. He was the retired owner of WKMT Radio of Kings Mountain; signing on March 12, 1953, he became the voice of Kings Mountain for 51 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kings Mountain, where he enjoyed singing in the choir and served as former deacon. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Kings Mountain Rotary Club and Bethware Progressive Club. He was a loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Doris Lee Summerlin Bridges.
He is survived by his son, Jonas Robert "Rob" Bridges II and wife, Denise, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Pam Bridges Looby and husband, Gary, of Cornelius; brother, Edwin Bridges of Boiling Springs; sister, Mildred Poston of Boiling Springs; and one grandson, Jonas R. "Jonas" Bridges III.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 3, 6 to 8 p.m., at Harris Funeral Home.
