DATELINE:  KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Katherine Atkinson Allred

Katherine Atkinson Allred, 73, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on June 04, 2024 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby, NC. She was born in Rockingham County, NC, daughter of the late James Clyde and Mary Terry Atkinson and was preceded in death by a sister, Terry Atkinson Ellis. She was a proud graduate of the University of Alabama where she earned  a bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering. Kathy retired from Underwriter Laboratories after 14 years of service. She was very active at the Patrick Senior Center where she led classes in Knitting and Crocheting. Kathy was a certified SHIIP counselor and assisted countless seniors with making decisions about insurance at the senior center. Kathy enjoyed staying active and she and Steve enjoyed adventures all over the world. From SCUBA diving, flying small experimental planes, riding motorcycles, sky diving and cruising, Kathy was always on the go. She was also happy doing everyday tasks like cooking for her family and gardening. She was an avid dog lover and enjoyed spending time with her family and canine companion Cooper. Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother whose memory will live on in the lives of her friends and loved ones.
