Marion Arthur Thomasson

DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA

NAME: MARION GROOME ARTHUR THOMASSON - Marion Groome Arthur Thomasson, age 89, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at her home. She was born on January 8, 1926, in High Point, NC, to the late James Henri and Elizabeth Groome Arthur. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, former Kings Mountain attorney, George B. Thomasson. Mrs. Thomasson attended Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia, and in 1950 she left for Tokyo, Japan, where she worked as an administrative assistant in the General Headquarters of the Far East Command until 1953, when she returned to Kings Mountain. She was an avid traveler and visited many countries around the world during her lifetime. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, the Thursday Afternoon Book Club, and several bridge clubs in town. Previously, she was a member of the Kings Mountain Woman's Club, and she served on the Kings Mountain Board of Education in the 1970s and early 80s. She was well known for her beautiful home and gardens at her house on Phifer Road, which she and Mr. Thomasson purchased in 1955.

Her daughter would like to extend a special thank you to Doris Adams, Ashley Carroll, Merianda Graham, Janette Meeks, Mandy Richardson, Carol Staie, and Crystal Wilkie for the love and care they provided to her mother over the last several years.

Granddaughter: Elizabeth Grace Parker, Doylestown, PA

Grandson: George Godwin Parker, Columbia, SC, and Marietta, GA

Sisters: Peggy Miller, Burlington, NC Shirley Kinneman and husband Bob, Culpeper, VA Jean Harris, Pasedena, TX, and Kings Mountain, NC

MEMORIAL SERVICE: First Presbyterian Church, Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Greg Martin, officiating.

RECEPTION: Immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall
