It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martha Sue Welch Horton, 82, of Kings Mountain, NC, who left this world on July 26, 2025, in the comfort of her home. Born on June 18, 1943, in Cleveland County, Sue was the beloved daughter of the late Lester and Flora Caldwell Welch. She was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 52 years, William Scott Horton, and her dear brother, Don Welch. Sue was a devoted member of Central Methodist Church, where she passionately served in the choir and taught Sunday school, sharing her love and kindness with her community. Professionally, she made her mark as an administrative secretary in manufacturing and later as a receptionist at Tracey Horton DDS, where her warm smile and dedication touched the lives of many. An avid lover of the coast, Sue found joy in her time spent at her beloved condo in Cherry Grove. She had a vibrant spirit, often keeping her mind sharp with jigsaw puzzles and nurturing stunning flowers in her garden. As a wonderful mother, she devoted herself to her daughters, Tracey Horton of Hickory, NC, and Sharon Horton of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Patsy Black and husband Jim of Clover, SC, Joy Tolbert of Huntersville, NC, and Barbara Stroupe of Kings Mountain, NC. Sue's legacy of love, friendship, and commitment to family will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be profoundly missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
