Marvin Rufus "Pete" Caveny, 95, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Carolinas Medical Center surrounded by loving family. He was born August 18,1930, in Cherokee County, South Carolina, to the late John and Nora Caveny. He was preceded in death by all his siblings; Harlin Caveny, Velma Caveny Bolin, Robert Caveny, Bertie Caveny Hamm, Luther Caveny, Lillian Caveny Spearman, Evelyn Caveny Graham, Lester Caveny, and Letha Caveny Sheppard.

Pete was a lifelong charter member of Victory Baptist Church in Grover, to which he contributed his construction skills. He served as a deacon and contributed to the upkeep of the church and grounds for many years, and was a Master Mason of the Fairview Masonic Lodge No. 339 of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

Pete served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He worked as a machinist, worked for the Public Gas Service of Gaston County, and retired from his position at the Kings Mountain National Military Park. He had a knack for building and repair and extended his expertise to anyone who asked. Many family members still hold dear items he made for them personally throughout the years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the great outdoors, and precious time with family.

Pete is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ayers Caveny, to whom he was married on April 15, 1960, and with whom he shared 66 wonderful years. He is also survived by daughters Donna Logan (and husband Lane) and Gaye Wright (and husband Philip); grandchildren, Elizabeth Logan (Randy Rivera) of Charlotte, Catherine Barker of Charlotte, John Hanna (Samara) of Blacksburg, S.C. and Noah Hanna (Brittany) Inman, S.C.; great-grand children, Adalai, Wilek, Luna, Charly, Elliot, and Waylon. Pete is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and his very special niece, Lucille Bowen.

Services will be held Thursday, April 16 in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dennis Wells officiating. Visitation will be at Harris Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.

Interment at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Blacksburg, S.C., following the service.
