Mary Ledwell Bridges

Mary Ledwell Bridges, 92, of Casar, NC, passed away on January 4, 2026 at home. Born December 25, 1933 in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Violet Heavner Ledwell and was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Richard Andrew Bridges, Sr., sisters Carolyn Bidema, Irene Hallman, Claire Hallman, and Lillian Brackett, brother Vernon Ledwell, son-in-law Dale Milling, daughter-in-law Julie Bridges, grandson-in-law Darrin O'Donoghue, great-grandson Tre Andrew Hunt, and great-great-grandson Elias Stephen. Mary worked for many years at the Old Mill in Kings Mountain, before spending over 25 years as a dietitian at Kings Mountain Hospital. Mary enjoyed going to church and reading her Bible. She and her late husband were longtime members of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, and in recent years she had faithfully attended Polkville Baptist Church. Mary also loved visiting the beach, fishing, and attending Jeep events. She was also a member of the Hopewell-Hollis Ruritans Club. Mary was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother to generations who will never forget their beloved Nanny and Maw-Maw.

SURVIVORS: Children: Cindy Milling of Casar and Richard Bridges, Jr. (Pat) of Kings Mountain, NC

Sister: Loretta Watts (Ben) of Marietta, GA

Grandchildren: Kevin Milling (Traci Bailey) of Shelby, NC, Melody O'Donoghue (Donald Blanton) of Casar, and April Bridges Adams (Jerome, Jr.) of Kings Mountain

Great-grandchildren: Alaina Milling (fiancé Manuel Acosta), Austin Milling (Phoenix), Destiny Thornton (Tyrese), JaLeighia Adams (fiancé Derrick Witherspoon), Faith Keller (Zoë Garcon), and Jacob Adams

Great-great-grandchild: Kashmir Evans

Mary is also survived by special friends Rev. Will Davis, Carolyn Hamrick, and Jenny Lattimore and by her beloved canine companions Petie and Lexi.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, January 9, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Polkville Baptist Church with Rev. Will Davis officiating

VISITATION: Friday, January 9, 2026, prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:50 P.M. at Polkville Baptist Church

INTERMENT: Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina with graveside duties performed by Rev. Josh Vernon
