DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Nancy McGinnis McGill
Nancy was born on October 27, 1933 in Shelby, N.C., and passed away on June 28, 2024 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, N.C. She grew up in Ellenboro, N.C. the daughter of a Baptist Preacher (William Fletcher McGinnis) and a School Teacher (Vera Whitaker McGinnis). After graduating Meredith College in 1955 with a degree in Home Economics, she accepted a teaching position at Bethware School in Kings Mountain. She subsequently met Norman Fuller McGill, Jr. and they were married in March of 1956. Nancy loved her church (Boyce Memorial ARP) and was involved in many ways; as a Sunday School teacher, a youth leader, the building fund chairperson, a pulpit search committee member, an ARP Cookbook project member, as well as many other roles over the years. Nancy loved cooking, and especially enjoyed cooking for the holidays and for each Sunday “family lunch”. For years, she enjoyed cooking lunch for the Senior teachers at Ashbrook High School on the day of graduation practice. Perhaps her favorite tradition was making Christmas Eve breakfast at home for her grandchildren, Hannah and Logan, and their cousins Tyler Leach, Ryan Leach and Brooke Deason. She always had a traditional breakfast, Christmas cookies, and a most memorable story time. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Norman F. McGill, Jr. She is survived by two sons, Norman F. McGill, III (Trip) and William D. McGill (Chip) (wife Laura Herndon McGill), and grandchildren Hannah Caitlin McGill of Kings Mountain and William Logan McGill of Flat Rock, N.C. The burial will be held at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain at 1:30pm on Monday July 1, 2024, with a Memorial Service to follow at 3:00pm at Boyce Memorial ARP Church in Kings Mountain. Receiving of friends will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall at Boyce Memorial ARP Church. The Reverend Robert E. Patrick, III will officiate.
