Born in Cleveland County, NC, son of the late Clyde and Averice Eaker Bridges and his mother and father-in-law, the late Fred and Irene Wilson Collins and was preceded in death by his brother-in-laws, Larry Deaton, Edgar C. Wiggins and Dennis G. Beatty. He was a member of El Bethel United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain and a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Freightliner, Gastonia, NC
