Frances Nellene Thornburg, 98, of Yadkinville, NC, passed away on December 22, 2024 at Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville, NC. She was born December 8, 1926 in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Grier Franklin and Cora Mae Dixon Sipes and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reverend John Jacob Thornburg and a sister, Thelma Hallman. Nellene was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Sherrills Ford. She spent her adult life serving her community as a Pastor's wife. Nellene taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and fulfilled any need that arose in any church where Reverend Thornburg served. She enjoyed sewing and keeping a tidy home for her family. Nellene loved nothing more than cooking for and entertaining her family. She cherished time together with her loved ones. Nellene enjoyed traveling and especially loved her time in Israel and Hawaii. Most of all, Nellene loved her Lord and served Him, her family and her community with her whole heart. Her constant guidance, love and sweet spirit will be remembered always by everyone who met and loved Nellene.

SURVIVORS: Children: John David Thornburg, Yadkinville, NC and Mary Francene Taylor (Mickey Groce), Mocksville, NC Siblings: Sue Wilson, Kings Mountain, NC, Norma Atkinson, Clover, SC, Bill Sipes (Brenda), Kings Mountain, NC and Ed Sipes (Sally), Rural Hall, NC Grandchildren: Anthony Thornburg, James Taylor (Leslie), and Traci Harris (Brad) Great Grandchildren: Breanna Thornburg, Marshall Taylor, Ashlyn Taylor, Jacob Ledbetter, Lucas Ledbetter, and Axl Harris Great-Great Grandchildren: Stetson Bryant and Macy Bryant

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Reverend Gene Alexander officiating

VISITATION: Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM prior to the service at Harris Funeral Home

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC
