- Norman James Abernathy, Sr., age 74, a resident 103 Meadowlark Lane, Grover, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby, NC. Born in Kings Mountain, NC, son of the late Wilburn Norman and Vada Pruitt Abernathy and was also preceded in death by a son Norman James Abernathy, Jr. Mr. Abernathy graduated from Kings Mountain High School and attended San Bernardino Community College in California, West Virginia University in West Virginia, and North Florida Academy of Real Estate in Jacksonville, Florida. He retired from AT&T after a distinguished 30 year career, serving numerous positions within AT&T departments in the capacity of executive management. The last ten years of his career with AT&T, Mr. Abernathy served as District Operations Manager of AT&T?s Special Services of Florida. A veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the American Legion Post 155 in Kings Mountain. A life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and he was a member of the Senior Golfers of Cleveland County.
