DIED JULY 14, 2010

KINGS MOUNTAIN- Odus D. Smith, Jr, age 86, resident of 316 Maner Rd., went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2010 at Kings Mountain Hospice House. Born in Troy, NC, son of the late Odus D. Smith, Sr. and Emma Elizabeth Smith and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rote T. Smith and Kermit L. Smith and one sister, Helen I. Smith. He came to Kings Mountain in 1955 where he opened the Western Auto on Main Street. He later moved his business to a building he had built on Cherokee Street were he and his wife worked side by side for 42 years. An active member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and never missed a Sunday. He also enjoyed being a part of the Golden Fellowship where he enjoyed singing and worship-ping with his many friends. Active in numerous civic clubs in and around Kings Mountain, some of which included the Chamber of Commerce, Kings Mountain Rescue Squad in which he was a lifetime board member, Kings Mountain Zoning Board, President of the Kings Mountain Motor Inns, Inc., President of Colonial Woods Development, served on the Kings Mountain Natatorium Committee, served on numerous Myrtle Beach HOA boards, President and owner of Odus D. Smith Jr, Inc., D/B/A/ Western Auto, AAA Sports, Mobile Vibrations and Page Plus Communications, served on the Shelby Investment Club, and was one of the owners and members of the Commodore Yacht Club. He served as chairman of the board of directors of BB&T. A member of the Kings Mountain Lions Club for over 50 years and a veteran of the US Army, serving in the European Theatre during World War II. Odus and his wife enjoyed traveling to numerous countries but always found that Kings Mountain was the place they would always call home. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, JoAnn Scarlett Smith a son: Pastor Gregory R. Smith, Sr. and wife Pastor Dana C. Smith of Germany, Daughter: Teresa Smith Negus and husband Martin J. Negus,Kings Mountain, N.C., Grandchildren: Jonathan, Gregory, and Heather Smith, Joshua and Austin Negus.
Visitation: Saturday, July 17, 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Stained Glass Room at First Baptist Church
Funeral Service: Saturday, July 17, 3 p.m. First Baptist Church
Officiating: Dr.John Sloan and Pastor Dana C. Smith
Interment: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, N.C.
