DATELINE:  KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Rebecca Louise Edsall

Rebecca (Becky) Oesch Edsall went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 15th, surrounded by her family at her home in Kings Mountain, NC. The daughter of Olive Marie Krisher Oesch and the late Billie Eugene Oesch, Becky was born on November 22, 1954, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by sister Ramona Oesch, brother Wayne Oesch, brother William Oesch, and nephews, Douglas Oesch and Travis Tuffley. Growing up in Topeka, Indiana, Becky was the oldest of six children and spent a good deal of her childhood tending to the younger ones because, as she said, “That’s just what you did in our house.” She describes their home as full of laughter with frequent chaos, and lots of fighting amongst the siblings—but also lots of love.  Full of spirit and fun in junior high and high school, Becky was a cheerleader and a drum majorette for the band. After high school, Becky married in 1975, and in a few short years, she became a busy mother, having three girls, Brooke, Autumn and Lyndsey, in three years. In addition to being a homemaker and raising three daughters, Becky had part-time jobs at the local grocery and hardware stores. Becky thrived on the busy-ness of motherhood and loved keeping house. Her girls were her pride and joy. In 1985, the family moved to Kings Mountain, NC where Becky decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a hairdresser. After completing training at beauty school, Becky began a career that would last 35 years in the same location, “A Kut Above.”  Because of her caring nature, Becky developed close bonds with her customers, and over the years, her career in hairdressing would become a ministry. Her customers came to be her friends, and with her servant’s heart, she would find ways to help them through difficulties. On several occasions, she provided a final gift of love by fixing the hair of customers after they passed away. Becky will be remembered for her generous and loving spirit, always striving to be a better person. Her grandchildren Will, Carson Rebecca, and Claire brought her much joy, and they have wonderful memories baking her famous Christmas cookies together.  In addition to baking, Becky also enjoyed gardening- flowers, not vegetables, and she had a knack for decorating, always on the lookout for just the right touch to add to a room.  She loved to paint, and she produced villages in wood, painted with careful details as well as ceramics like colorful Easter bunnies for the holidays.  Becky adored little babies and would often ask, “Can I please just hold them?”  Becky also had an inventive mind, and in her career as a hairdresser, she was always looking for easier ways to do things, using shower caps and other odds and ends for her creative ideas.  Growing up in the Lutheran Church, Becky was a woman of faith. Describing herself as a simple person, she lived a life of simple faith. In 2008 when she received a diagnosis of brain cancer, Becky responded with her simple faith by leaning on Jesus to be with her through the struggle. She continued to live and love, staying true to her convictions, and in her last days she said that she felt God right there with her in the midst of it all.

Becky is survived by her mother Olive Oesch of Kings Mountain, NC; her sister Renee Oesch Klein and husband Peter of Baltimore, Maryland; brother Wade Elliott Oesch of Waterloo, Indiana; daughters Brooke and Lyndsey Edsall, both of Kings Mountain; and Autumn Edsall Fincher and husband Bob of Hickory, NC; grandchildren Will, Carson Rebecca, and Claire Fincher; many beloved nieces and nephews, and Johnny Hutchins, her long-time friend and faithful companion along with his daughter Buffy and husband John Murphy, daughter Tammy and husband Gary Houge, and son Chris and wife Christy Hutchins and their children and grandchildren.  Becky will be missed by Toby, Copper and Tickle, her beloved puppies, who laid by her side until her very last day.
