Richard Andrew Bridges Sr.

DATELINE: CASAR, NORTH CAROLINA Richard Andrew Bridges Sr Richard Andrew Bridges Sr, 89, formerly of Kings Mountain, passed away on June 17, 2021 at his home in Casar, NC. He was born in Cleveland County, NC, the only son of the late Charlie and Verdie Short Bridges and was preceded in death by his only sister, Mary Alice Huffstickler. Richard was also preceded in death by his in-laws, Dewey and Violet Ledwell, a daughter-in-law, Julie Bridges, and a great grandchild, Tre Andrew Hunt. He was a longtime member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church. He served his country honorably in the US Navy. Richard retired from Haas and Herron in Gastonia, NC where he spent many years as an electronics repairman. Richard and his wife Mary loved fishing and after his retirement they fulfilled their dream of living near the ocean. Always active, Richard continued working while living at the beach. He worked for Oceanside Village in maintenance for fifteen years. He loved being outdoors and spent many days surf and pier fishing and befriending a local egret "Big Boy" that he would eat from Richard's hand. Richard was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his many grandchildren. His love for telling jokes, kindness, and compassion will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him.
