DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Shirley Ann Bimrose
Shirley Ann Houser Bimrose was born in Shelby, NC on November 20, 1934 to George Henry Houser and Laura Juletta Mauney Houser. Shirley, was also known as “Mimi” to her granddaughters and “ShaSha” to her sister’s family. She peacefully passed away at the Hospice of the Piedmont Home in High Point, NC on April 3, 2025, surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Ann Johnson of Jamestown, North Carolina (Samuel E. Johnson) and sister, Beth McIntrye of Gastonia (Lee McIntyre). Also surviving are granddaughters, Cushman Brinegar of Fulshear, Texas (Will Brinegar), Hannah E. Hayes of Denver, Colorado (Jesse Shelton), and Sarah K. Reymann of Charlotte, NC. All of these individuals, Shirley’s niece, Betsy Hurst of Gastonia, NC (Brad Hurst) and nephew, and Trey McIntyre of Fort Mill, SC (Kori McIntyre) brought her joy. Six Great Grandchildren along with cousins from the Hurst/McIntyre Families survived Shirley. Shirley was predeceased by her son, George Hudson who died at the young age of three and her former husband, Fred Bimrose. For most of Shirley’s life she lived in Kings Mountain, NC. After graduating from high school, she graduated from Howard Business School in Shelby, NC. Her sister remembers the many fun rides in Shirley’s yellow jeep and enjoying friends at Lake Montonia. Early on in her career, she began working as a Secretary for the State of North Carolina in the State Purchasing Division. After living in Raleigh, Shirley returned to Kings Mountain. She worked at the Lithium Corporation in Bessemer City and then chose to enter the world of retail, owning The Christmas Emporium in Kings Mountain for over 30 years. She enjoyed the shop and all her customers who frequented, especially during the holiday seasons. During her adult life she enjoyed bridge with friends, playing the organ at her home church, St. Matthews Lutheran Church, and enjoying the NC beaches and fishing off the pier. In her later years, she moved to Jamestown, NC to be near her daughter’s family. There will be a Graveside Service held on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 11:00 am. After the service the family will visit with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her honor at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Kings Mountain, NC and Hospice of The Piedmont Home in High Point, NC.
