Shirley May Mayes

Shirley May Mayes, 88, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on July 25, 2024 at Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Olland Robert and Iva Lee Falls Pearson and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Gene Delano Mayes and her brother, Harold Dean Pearson. Shirley was a former longtime member of Family Worship Center. She was employed by Dellinger's Jewel Shop for many years where she loved working with the public. Shirley's love for beautiful jewelry extended beyond her job and she collected and wore many pieces over the years. Always ready to go, Shirley enjoyed going out, meeting and talking with people, and was known to always greet people with a hug. She never met a stranger and loved being around her family, especially her great grandchildren who affectionately called her May-May. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose kindness, love, and compassion will live on in the lives of everyone who knew her.

SURVIVORS: Daughter: Jackie Mayes Putnam, Kings Mountain, NC

Two Grandsons: Brandon Gene Putnam (Melanie) Kings Mountain, NC; and Jason Keith Putnam (Jessica) Gastonia, NC

Six Great Grandchildren: Mason, Brinley, Hudson, Hadley, Gracyn, and Georgia

Special Nephew: Chris Pearson

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Reverend Eddie Gray officiating

VISITATION: Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM prior to the service at Harris Funeral Home

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
