Lyn Beam

Susan Lynette “Lyn” Beam, 68, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, September 25, 2026, with her husband by her side, following a brief illness.

Born in Columbus, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Bobby William and Sybil Blanton Stringfellow. Lyn grew up to graduate from Kings Mountain High School and earned her degree from UNC Charlotte. Dedicated to caring for others, she spent 35 years as a registered nurse, working in numerous hospitals across the Greensboro and Charlotte areas. She spent the majority of her career in recovery rooms, specializing in cardiac health.

Lyn was a remarkably independent, passionate, and deeply compassionate woman. She possessed a fierce resilience, successfully rebuilding her financial foundation from the ground up to achieve independence. Her capacity for empathy was endless; she opened her heart and home to care for her ex-husband during his darkest struggles, and she selflessly and tirelessly cared for her father during the final five years of his life. Her faith was equally multifaceted; she found joy in the contemporary worship at Oak Ridge Methodist Church, yet always held a deep appreciation for the ritual and tradition of St. Matthews Lutheran Church.

She loved animals of all sorts: dogs, horses, and especially cats. In her earlier years she enjoyed horseback riding and waterskiing. Lyn loved to garden and work outside. She took great pride in how the house looked inside and out, having a keen eye for unique antiques and landscaping plants.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Stringfellow.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Tony E. Beam; three step-children and their spouses, Jordan Beam (Ashley), Kristy Watkins (Kevin), and Katie Toste (JP); and 14 grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Wendy Stringfellow, and two nephews, Jonathan Ballinger, Jr. and Blake Ballinger.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Oak Ridge Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Carr and Kevin Watkins officiating. A reception will follow in the church Fellowship Hall.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain, NC, with Pastor John Yost officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Lyn's honor to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Kings Mountain, NC.
