Susan Shockley Sorrow

Gastonia, North Carolina

Susan Shockley Sorrow, 69, passed away on Thursday, January 29th, 2026 at her home in Gastonia, NC. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Wallace and Gay Shockley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Sorrow, and her brother, Jeff Shockley.

After graduating from Winthrop in 1991, Susan went on to work for Gaston College, then Gaston County Schools for several years before retiring in 2022. Beyond that, Susan was a lover of animals, opening her home not only to many cats and dogs, but even to her parrot, Georgia. After retiring Susan dove into her passions of animals and serving Christ by taking her dog Chase to nursing homes and visiting with many, as well as authoring a blog entitled “Something Wonderful”.

A special thank you to caregivers Debra, Crystal, Dyana, and Gentiva Hospice Nurse, Mr. Lee who made a profound impact on the final weeks of Susan's life. Additionally the family wants to give special thanks to Susan's sister-in-law Kathy, who never left her side in her sickness and met Susan's greatest concern of caring for her animals.

SURVIVORS: Susan is survived by sister-in-law Kathy Shockley, nieces Nikki Clevenger (John) and Ashley Chronister (Jeremy), great-nieces Hannah and Allison, and great-nephews Parker and Sam.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, February 6, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bobby Duran officiating

VISITATION: The family will receive friends in the cemetery immediately following the interment.

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina
