Charles Thomas "Tommy" Queen

Tommy won the race and moved to his permanent home in heaven on September 23, 2026 at Wendover Hospice in Shelby, NC, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 15, 1953 in Kings Mountain, to Robert Eugene and Delora Biddix Queen. Tommy was a veteran of the US Marines Corps, a Master Mason in Fairview Lodge #339 and a member of the White Plains Shrine Club. His passions were his work, golfing and traveling with his beloved wife, Paula. He was a wonderful husband who loved truly, laughed heartily and lived life to the fullest. Tommy was a master barber and owner/operator of Barbershops in the Charleston SC area before returning home to Kings Mountain in 1998. He was most recently Owner/Operator of "The Barber Shop" on Piedmont Avenue in Kings Mountain for 27 years. His customers lovingly gave him the title of the fastest barber in town and said he gave the very best 5 minute haircut. Tommy nurtured deep connections with his customers and could often be found at their homes or nursing homes servicing clients that became homebound or hospitalized. Affectionately known as "Mr. Tommy" by his "mini" clients, he looked forward to seeing them come in to challenge him to water gun fights or giggle when he would talk to them with his Donald Duck voice. He delighted in their hugs, giving them suckers and watching them grow into young men. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them laughing and reminiscing about growing up and old times. Tommy could be heard anytime singing or humming his favorite old gospel, county or Elvis tunes. Tommy was a member of First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. He loved the Lord and although he was unable to attend church for some time prior to his passing, his faith was resolute and unwavering which led to his final journey to heaven. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort knowing that Tommy's life was one well-lived, and his love well-shared. Safe now in the arms of Jesus, Tommy will be missed but his memory will forever remain a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken Queen, sister Patricia Queen and brother-in-laws, Roy Lee Bryson and Phillip Sanders and sister-in-law Tina Radford.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Paula Sanders Queen. His children, Tony Scruggs (Danelle), Shelby, NC, and Gena Treadway (John), Blacksburg, SC.

His sisters Gloria Bryson and Elaine Tracey (Mike), both of Gastonia.

Sister-in-law, Kathy Queen.

His beloved grandchildren: Shawn Scruggs, Jake Scruggs, Noah Scruggs, Kaitlyn McClure and Jacquelyn Noto and 2 great grandchildren.

His nephews Doug Bryson (Carri), Robbie Bryson (Heather), both of Gastonia, NC, Kenny Daniel Queen, Tim Queen, both of Kings Mountain, NC and Scott Richardson, Lincolnton, NC

FUNERAL SERVICE: Monday, September 28, 2026 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. John Sloan officiating

VISITATION: Monday, September 28, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 1:50 PM prior to the service in the Stain Glass room at First Baptist Church

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, North Carolina

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in Tommy's name to VIA Hospice at 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or to First Baptist Church Mission Readiness Fund at PO Box 786, Kings Mountain, NC 28086
