William A."Bill" Alexander

NAME: Bill Alexander

- William A. “Bill” Alexander, age 98, of Kings Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2016. Born in Tyrrell, County, he was the son of the late Theophilus Colton Alexander and Annie Eliza Holadia Alexander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 brothers, 2 sisters and one grandson, Bryan Wilson. Bill served in the Army during WWII, was a POW in Germany, and retired as a Major from the Reserves. After the war, he graduated from Wake Forest University and Southwestern Baptist Seminary. He served as Minister of Christian Education in several churches throughout the Carolinas for ten years and as a Bible and math teacher in the Cleveland County School System for nineteen years. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher and member of the Senior Choir. One of his favorite activities after retirement was competing in the Senior Games where he won many medals at the regional and state levels. Bill was a loving husband, Daddy, Grandpa and Pop.

Daughters: Fran Payne, Kings Mountain, NC; Anne Jones, Dallas, NC;

Jan Spearman (Don) Clover, SC

Son: Stan Alexander (Steve), Pensacola, FL

Grandchildren: Anissa Moore (Greg); Mark Blanton (Marti);

Alex Payne, Adam Payne (Laura); Johnny Wilson, Chris Wilson (Danna)

Great-grandchildren: Erin (Ryan), Andrew, Daniel,

Thomas, Candice (Will), Alyssa, Austin, Shane, Ethan

Great-great grandchildren: Paige, Rylen, Mason, Ryan

Special caregiver/friend: Sonya Oates

FUNERAL SERVICE: First Baptist Church, Tuesday, July 5, 2016 3:00 PM with Dr. Chip Sloan officiating.

VISITATION: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM, July 5, 2016, in the Stained Glass Room of First Baptist Church

INTERMENT: Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC with Military Honors
