William Hezekiah King, known to many as Bill, of Kings Mountain, NC, went to meet his Savior on February 26, 2026 at the age of 87 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby, NC. Born August 5, 1938 in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Ernest King and Margie Hall King and was preceded in death by his brothers Jack, Hubert, Wayne, Clyde, and Hurley, and by his sisters Evelyn, Reva, and Doris. He served his country and state honorably with the North Carolina National Guard. Bill began a long and fulfilling career with Champion Paper Mill in Canton, NC in 1956, from which he retired in 1989. After retirement, he continued working as a conveyor systems specialist.
No matter where Bill lived, he was an active member of the community and a faithful attendee at church. Longtime members of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Canton, Bill and Earlene moved their membership to Patterson Grove Baptist upon their relocation to Kings Mountain. Bill assisted in building numerous churches in North Carolina and served on many mission trips and disaster relief efforts over the years. At Oak Grove in Canton, he served as a deacon and President of the Baptist Men. Bill is fondly remembered for his more than 30 years of dedicated volunteer efforts at Samaritan's Purse, where he spent decades leading community shoebox collection for Operation Christmas Child along with increasing duties in several other capacities. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose legacy of service, devotion, and faithfulness will serve as a reminder and a comfort to those he leaves behind.
