Obituary

DATELINE:  KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA
Dr. Jane C. King (76), loving wife, family champion, distinguished educator, wise friend, spiritual guide, mentor to generations, Outlander fan, and gracious soul, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on May 12, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Jerry L. King, son Michael King and his wife, Thelma, and her brother Paul Cabe.
The daughter of Russell and Dorothy Cabe, Nancy Jane Cabe grew up in the beautiful mountains of Franklin, North Carolina where she was a Girl Scout, cheerleader, and editor of the school newspaper.  After graduating from Western Carolina University, she moved to Cleveland County to teach and became a valued member of the district school system.  She loved the community and made her home in Kings Mountain.
Dr. King was a compassionate and innovative educator, ensuring children were successful in learning. During her career, she served as teacher, principal and central office administrator.  Dr. King earned her doctorate at the University of North Carolina. She mentored future school leaders at Gardner-Webb University. Dr. King was the co-author of Rethink, Rebuild, Rebound, a manual for creating excellent learning environments for children.
Jane King was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as teacher and Elder. She shared her beautiful soprano voice as a choir member. 
Jane loved her family fiercely and served as a guiding light to all.  Survivors include children Karen Moser (Jeff), Todd King (Paula), Susan King (Jay), and Finley King (Eden); grandchildren Leigh Watson (Matt), Jacob Moser (Paige), Colden King (Claire), Torrence Moser, Madison King, Sarah King, and Gibson King; great-grandchildren Eve, Jacob, Benjamin and Brooklyn; brother Lewis Cabe (Diane); niece Tanessa Cabe (Steve); nephew Brian Cabe (deceased); great-nieces Helenica and Gizella; devoted caregivers Teresa Moss and Debbie Ross; generations of students, colleagues, friends, and neighbors.
A memorial service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held in July at the First Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dr. Jane C. King Scholarship, Cleveland County School Foundation, 400 West Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150 or to the First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain.
