Richard Mathis Obituary

DATELINE:  KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA
Richard Melbourne Mathis

Richard Melbourne Mathis, 86, passed away on Sept. 7th, 2021 in Kings Mountain, NC. He will be interred at Grover Cemetery.

Richard was born in Newtown, Ohio to Arthur and Eva Mathis on June 5th, 1935. He served in the Air Force and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Business Administration and later received his masters from Harvard Graduate School of Business.  He worked as the vice president of finance for several Indian Tribes throughout the Western United States; including Hopi, Navajo, Salt River Pima-Maricopa, Pascua Yaqui, and Gila River for almost 25 years. Finally, using his knowledge of Indian Tribe finances, he collaborated with Generation Seven Strategic Partners, a consulting firm created to provide a conduit between tribal governments and non-tribal entities to help achieve successful outcomes for Indian Tribes. In 2011 he retired to North Carolina to be near his daughter. He was actively involved in the Bahai Faith since 1974.

Richard is survived by his only daughter, Robin Heather Mathis Scoggins and her husband, Andy Scoggins and his granddaughter, Katelyn Ann Renee Latham.
