William Charles Blair
On Monday, November 6, 2023, Dr. William “Charles” Blair, a distinguished and revered authority in the dental profession passed away at age 81. He was born in Gastonia, NC, son of the late Reverend Dr. William Harris Blair and Floy Drum Blair. He graduated from Erskine College in 1964 with a degree in mathematics, then joined the Navy serving as a Lieutenant on the USS Independence until 1969.
Following his naval career, Charles attended UNC-Chapel Hill, graduating from the School of Dentistry in 1974. Charles led a life of service as a life scout, naval officer, deacon, President of the Isothermal Dental Society, President of the Erskine Alumni Association, member of Rotary, and member of the American Dental Association.
After 10 years of private practice, he started his dental consulting career. His legacy of innovation, mentorship, and dedication to dental practice management will forever be remembered. He was not only a visionary and pioneer, but also a mentor, a friend, a father figure, and a source of inspiration to many.
Charles was a highly respected author and publisher, nationally acclaimed speaker and presented hundreds of programs across the country at various dental study clubs, meetings, and national conventions.
Surviving and honoring his memory are his children Janet Blair and Mason Blair. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edie Blair, and his brother Dr. Howard Blair. His passing leaves a permanent void, but his legacy will live indefinitely.
A memorial service will be conducted by Reverend Rick Lewis at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Boyce Memorial ARP Church in Kings Mountain, NC. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Erskine College, Boyce Memorial ARP Church, or the Humane Society of Charlotte, NC.
