George B. Thomasson

U.S. Veteran

GEORGE B. THOMASSON - George B. Thomasson, former Kings Mountain attorney, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, August 23. A native of Cleveland County, he was born on January 5, 1924, to the late Charles and Ruth Chance Thomasson. He was a lifelong and active member of First Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain, serving as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and trustee. Mr. Thomasson graduated from Kings Mountain High School, Davidson College, and Duke University School of Law. He practiced law in Kings Mountain for 52 years before retirement while also serving as the judge of the Kings Mountain Recorder’s Court for several years. He also acted as the City Attorney for Kings Mountain for many years. He also served as the past president of the Kings Mountain Jaycees, a member of the Kings Mountain Lions Club, a former member of the board of trustees for Cleveland County Hospital, and a trustee of Kings Mountain Hospital. While a student at Davidson, Mr. Thomasson was drafted into the United States Army and served in the 399th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division Company M. He served in active combat in Ardennes-Alsace in France, Central Europe, and the Rhineland in Germany. Upon his discharge, he received the American Theater Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge WW II Victory Medal.

SURVIVORS: Wife of 58 years, Marion Arthur Thomasson, of the home Daughter and Son-in-law; Ann and Paul Parker, Marietta, Ga. Granddaughter Elizabeth Parker, Doylestown, PA., Grandson George Parker, Columbia, SC and Marietta MEMORIAL SERVICE: First Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, August 27, 2013 2:00 P.M. Rev. John Bridges, officiating. VISITATION: Family will meet with friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church.
